Cleaning water buckets, water troughs and feed buckets was never a very satisfying chore. I tried brushes, rags, Pine-Sol, bleach and even the pressure washer, but buckets were still grungy and that green slime would not budge without some serious elbow grease.

Never fear. I have discovered the Holy Grail of algae removal and it was hiding at my local Dollar Tree.
It’s a nifty, curly metal scrubber. Two for a dollar. They don’t rust. Long lasting. No metal splinters. I think that perhaps some bluebirds with pink ribbons in their beaks should be flying around this handy dandy tool. Or perhaps unicorns on the packaging would be more appropriate.
Scrub out those nasty buckets with this little beauty and you’ll have that stinky, green mess gone in no time. One of my horses is a hay dunker and even the nastiness that comes with that habit is gone.

When it’s gone, when it’s go-uh-on. I won’t miss it when it’s gone (but I wish Anna Kendrick would sing that song to me while I’m scrubbing barn buckets). You don’t need soap or harsh cleaners, so it’s an easy rinse. A dose of sunshine takes care of most other germies and if there is something that just WON’T give it up, sprinkle a little baking soda on there, scrub it up, rinse and you are GOOD TO GO!

I have used the same one for MONTHS now and it hasn’t given up its spunk–which is more than I can say for some of my sports bras. If I am feeling extra splurgy, I’ll unpack one of these little metal donuts and start anew.
You gotta buy one of these. No Dollar Tree–don’t holla at me. They have them on Amazon*. You’re welcome.
