I’m like “Sugar Pie Honey Bunch.” I can’t help myself. Seriously, I was born into an organized family.
My father stored his various screwdrivers, hammers, wrenches and power tools on a pegboard on which he outlined the tools’ silhouettes and then painted inside the lines so he could assess that every implement was in its place. He corralled various types of nails, screws, nuts and bolts into labeled baby food jars or coffee cans.
My mother nested the cord of her hand mixer in a used empty toilet paper roll way before twistie things were manufactured. She kept the books for my father’s contractor business in labeled binders stored neatly on shelves.
Aside from my genetic disposition for organization, I love organizing. I adore knowing EXACTLY where something is and that it will be in good repair when I get there. Is this attention to order a blessing or a curse? I’m not sure but I AM sure I can help you get your horsey accoutrement and your barn more organized too.
But where to begin?
In picturesque Lisbon there’s a short little street, Betesga, that’s only 10 meters long and a huge square called the Rossio.
The Portuguese (specifically ones from Lisbon), have a saying that’s perfect for where we should start your organizing journey.
“Meter o Rossio na Betesga”
which translates, “To shove the Rossio in the Betesga.” It means that a place is too small for the number of objects one tries to cram into it. So, the first order of business is to declutter. All the stuff in your tack trunk, grooming box, trailer, truck and barn that would fit into the Rossio, needs to fit onto Betesga.
Another thing about me is that I love to travel–especially when it involves horses. From photography workshops to trips to Portugal to ride classically trained Lusitanos, equestrian travel is my thing. You can learn more about my horsey adventures at “Step Away From the Stable.”
Let’s get started, shall we? Then, when someone asks, “Were you Born In A Barn?” you can answer, “Oh, yeah!”
Let me know if you have any questions, suggestions or tips of your own to share. I’m just an email away at sue@wereyouborninabarn.com.
Happy organizing,
